On the Water

Sailboat, tugboat, ferry, barge,
Sunfish, tanker, small or large,
Ply the waters way downtown;
Watching them, it’s hard to frown.

How they chug and bounce and glide!
A sight most people take in stride;
But as for me, I can’t begin
To squelch a most delighted grin.

The waterways, with lovely views,
Shine so much more than avenues.
To city dwellers, their allure
Is access to a distant shore.

So on the land, I watch them pass,
Admiring their style and sass.
Commuters, if they had that vote,
I’m sure would choose to go by boat!
