On the Mend

It’s strange when you are on the mend.
You’re not yourself – you can’t pretend.
You feel much better than before;
But still, more healing is in store.

How much to push? How much to rest?
It’s hard to know which way is best.
The answer isn’t real clear-cut;
I guess you have to trust your gut.

So every day, as you improve,
You’re just a bit more in the groove;
And then at last you comprehend
That you are really on the mend.
