A Lasting Gift

My Uncle Aaron, now deceased,

Once brought me, as a gift,

A game with marbles called Hi-Q,

Which gave me quite a lift.

The base is made of pottery.

It’s circular in style

And sits out in my living room;

I think of him and smile.

I haven’t played in years, although

It’s challenging and fun.

You jump the marbles, hoping that

You’ll end with only one.

That never happens, but last night,

My grandkids tried and tried.

I watched them play and all I felt

Was happiness inside.

How lovely when connections flow

From generations past.

We never know what will live on

From dies that we have cast.
