Urban Serenade

From my apartment, I can hear
The traffic swishing by,
Since honking horns and back-up beeps
Are not in short supply.

The shouts of athletes from the field
Where games are being played
Combine with children laughing
For an urban serenade.

Occasionally, dogs will bark
And trucks will idle loudly
Or cheers erupt when teams score points
With parents shrieking loudly.

I relish this cacophony.
What some consider noise,
We city folk consider
One of New York’s many joys.
