Non-Christmas

Meeting friends on Christmas Day;
The holiday’s not ours.
But what to do? The weatherman’s
Predicting messy showers.

Choices aren’t many – stores
And restaurants are shut.
Shows and most museums, too;
We might be in a rut.

Once the zoo was open
Every day, they liked to boast,
But now they’re closed on Christmas
And that promise turned to toast.

The movie theaters run their films,
Some diners open, too,
So we can catch a flick and eat
Or else what we can do…

Is buy some food and stay at home
And have our friends come here,
To sit and schmooze and thus indulge
In our non-Christmas cheer.
