Budapest and Prague

Went to Budapest and Prague -
Got a little taste.
Travels give you memories
That do not get erased.

Marveled at the synagogues,
Saw the famous clock.
Visited a Nazi camp
With images to shock.

Rode the Metros and the trams;
Wandered cobbled streets.
Drank my share of local beer,
Savored ice cream treats.

Gorgeous buildings everywhere,
Artwork quite amazing.
Walked the bridges and saw views
Deserving people’s praising.

Castles, palaces and shops,
Boat ride on the river.
Chamber music played with
All the charm one could deliver.

Dealt with language barriers,
Crowd and blazing heat;
Challenges each day, like
What to do and where to eat.

Fellow tourists joined and split
In various directions;
Yet we managed to establish
Rarefied connections.

Flying home and looking back,
I think I understand
How travel gives you so much more
Than what you thought you’d planned.
