An advertisement in The Times
Intrigued me and much more;
It showed a German watch
For purchase at a Soho store.
The catchphrase there in black and white,
Right there for you to find,
Is, at three hundred bucks, that watch is
“Priced with you in mind.”
Just who’s the “you” they’re thinking of;
It’s certainly not me.
I won’t spend that much on a watch
And that’s a guarantee.
Yet somebody who wrote that ad
Believes the price is right;
And those who’d buy that watch
Would surely climb to fashion’s height.
But what about the rest of us
Who will not spend that much?
I think the ad man just might be
A little out of touch.
It’s obvious that to this new
Economy he’s blind;
For many of us aren’t those
That ad man had in mind.
