Egyptian Women

Egypt’s ruling party thinks
That women should obey.
Husbands rule and lowly wives
Should do just as they say.

A counseling class for brides-to-be
Gave guidance tough to swallow,
Saying that a man must lead
And woman merely follow.

Females in the class agreed.
Beneath their covered hair,
They said decision-making
Wasn’t something that they’d dare.

The leader told them that’s the way
The sexes were created.
Women are subservient,
A thought no one debated.

If I’d been born Egyptian,
Maybe I’d feel that reliance,
But from here I wish Egyptian gals
Would rise up in defiance!
