The Not-So-Early Bird

I saw a robin catch a worm

Then put it down to watch it squirm.

This action was repeated ‘til

I guess he’d finally had his fill.

With worm held tight, he hopped away,

His breakfast snagged, to start his day.

Perhaps he was the early bird

To which the adage has referred.

Yet when I witnessed this, the sun

Was past the point when day’s begun

And I was even slightly late,

So “early’s” open to debate.

Though still, the bird and I both did

Our morning chore outside, amid

The quiet of the city streets,

With exercise and tasty treats.
