Obituaries often feature
Photos of the dead
But many aren't current,
Showing younger selves instead.
At first I found this disconcerting
For it seemed so weird
To showcase someone looking
Like he, years ago, appeared.
A picture of a dashing soldier,
Smiling and alive,
Might accompany the bio
Of "Deceased at 95."
Yet on further speculation, I
Decided it's okay
To want people to remember
Someone in a certain way.
I think we'd all agree we look
Much better when our faces
Don't reflect what time has done
When put through all of lifetime's paces.
