Most of them weren't listening
To what I had to say.
The teacher tried to settle them
But they did not obey.
A few, though, were attentive
(Still, I wish it had been more)
But that's the way it sometimes goes
On my museum tour.
I volunteer to lead these groups,
The same age that I taught,
And since I've been retired,
It's a contact that I've sought.
Yet there are times when things aren't smooth
(And, no, don't blame the season)
When I'm reminded that I am
Retired for a reason!
