Down on New Year's Eve

I do believe that New Year’s Eve
Is highly overrated
Despite the hype of every type
With which we’re inundated.

For those who ache, it’s hard to make
A proper celebration
And so they sink, perhaps with drink,
To thoughts of desperation.

The year is gone but life goes on
With hopes and dreams arising.
That some carouse when chance allows
Should not be so surprising.
