Cancelled

I was going to a picnic
In the park this afternoon,
But the weatherman’s prediction
Made it seem not opportune.

Of course, it’s nicer in the sun.
Today’s got lots of clouds;
But probably the park will not be
Overrun by crowds.

It’s almost three o’clock and yet
It hasn’t rained a drop.
Still, a downpour might have started,
Not inclined to stop.

I understand the change in plans,
But sometimes it’s in vain.
The picnic’s set for one week hence –
I hope it doesn’t rain!
