Life is like a quilt to me,
Colorful and many-hued;
Stitched together carefully,
With varied shades of attitude.
Some are sassy, some refined;
Others burst with passion.
Some are artfully designed –
They’re like the latest fashion.
But even though some seem to reach
Perfection in each stitch,
If you look closely you may see
A subtle, tiny glitch.
Though life can oft be filled with joy
And you can catch some breaks,
Don’t fool yourself – it can destroy
When we make our mistakes.
For life’s uneven, and can seem
Quite heartless, cruel, and hard;
And you can’t always rip a seam
To keep your quilt unmarred.
Still, we dabble and proceed
To breathe, to work, to sew;
And sometimes we get what we need
And have a quilt to show.
