A family gathers from afar
By plane and then by rental car
To celebrate a life cut short
With poignant mem’ries holding court.
There will be speeches, songs and tears
And recollections of the years
We got to share with someone who
Uplifted everyone she knew.
We’re never ready for a loss
But times like these, what comes across
Is how one person can depart
Yet stay alive in every heart.
